Friends allow you to customize the survey experience by dynamically injecting a participant’s friends into multiple choice question options. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to configure, deploy, and export data using the Friends feature.
1. Managing Participant Friends
Before a survey can dynamically display a participant's friends, you need to configure those friends to the participant's profile.
Navigate to the Project: Open your project dashboard and select the specific participant you want to configure.
Add Friends: Locate the Friends section in the user card.
Input Names: Simply type a friend's name and press
Enterto add them to the list. Spaces can be included in a name to enter a full name.
2. Enabling Friends in the Question Builder
You can enable this feature on a question-by-question basis. It is currently supported for Multiple Choice questions and is compatible with Select All That Apply and Free Response configurations.
Create a Question: Open your survey builder and create a multiple choice question.
Toggle the Feature: Look for the Enable Friends toggle switch in the question settings and switch it to "Yes".
How it Works in Action: * When the participant takes the survey, the standard answer choices will be replaced by their configured list of friends.
Fallback Behavior: If a participant does not have any friends configured in their profile, the survey will automatically default back to the original multiple-choice options you typed into the question builder.
3. Exporting Your Data
When your data collection is complete, exporting your results is seamless. The system automatically formats friend-based responses for easy analysis in Excel, SPSS, or R.
Standard Responses: Single-select or free-response answers will export as plain text.
Select All That Apply Responses: If a participant selects multiple friends in a single question, the names will be bundled into a single cell, in plain text, delimited by a semicolon (
;).
