TigerAware has customized user account features to protect the integrity of your data and the confidentiality of your participants. In this article, we will cover key TigerAware account features, including:
- Account emails
- Admin vs. participant accounts
Account emails
We use an email address to link user accounts with projects, surveys, and responses. However, in order to protect the anonymity and confidentiality of your participants, we do not require these emails to be linked with a verified address. Many researchers elect to follow a convention for participant email addresses such as 0001@study.com and pre-create the accounts as they configure the study, but participants may also create their own accounts on the mobile application or website.
Regardless of the method, each email you create must be unique and not previously assigned.
Admin vs. participant accounts
To protect the security of user responses, TigerAware offers two types of user accounts: administrator and participant.
- Administrator accounts are intended for researchers, who will create, deploy, and manage studies.
- Participant accounts are intended for study participants, who will submit their responses without managing studies.
Administrators have the broadest access to platform functionality, while participants can access a limited set of features:
Privilege | Participant | Administrator |
Create and modify surveys | No | Yes |
Take surveys | Yes | Yes |
View personal responses | Yes | Yes |
View others' responses | No | Yes |
Add administrators | No | Yes |
Remove administrators | No | Yes, if the project owner |
When a user creates a new account on the TigerAware mobile application, it is configured as Participant by default. However, participants may still log onto the dashboard to view their responses and send messages to study administrators. To see a preview of the participant dashboard, click "Participant View" on the account icon in the top right of the screen.
Regardless of the account type, participants and administrators who create TigerAware accounts will only be able to access your projects if you explicitly grant them permission by adding their TigerAware account email to your project on the administration page.
